Tip One: Make your script less cheesy before buying a new camera.
Simple.
ok i'm rather new to all this so you'll forgive me if i sound stupid. i have an old 8mm camcorder and have done 2 animations. i was intending to do some filming over the summer but didn't get round to it. i have written one script, its a little cheesy but sound none the less. i would be greatful for any advice on what camera to get preferably very cheap. and any other advice would be very helpful.
Cheers

get minidv and get the best one you can afford! until you are ready don't try film.
film is very expensive and shouldnt be used until you have a good grasp of the basics, that way you wont waste hundreds of pounds on film just to learn the stuff you would learn for ?5. Once you feel you have gone as far as you can with video, then go into film... all the cool stuff you can do with shutter speeds and what not can get quite complex.
Hey,
I recommend MiniDV like most. Canon and Sony are usually pretty solid. Canon is more expensive to repair, but sony you have more background noise. Either way, good luck.
some canon models are re\nound for huge motor niose so i dunno if that last statement was very accurate.
Thier are loads of great camcorders on the market, which model is best for you depends on your budget and what features you are after.

thanks i will bear that in mind. i was looking at a mini dv camera called a mustek dv3000 its really cool and only costs ?125 how ever the company that sold it seemed a bit dodgy so i couldn't get it and all other websites that had didn't leave a phone number
cheers anyway
?125 isnt going to give you picture and sound to write home about. I would aviod that thing. You can get a very good quality camera with all mod cons (DV in, Mic in, Headphone out) for around ?400 if you shop around.
MiniDV is actually the suggested format for making presentations for our italian film school. that means that's actually the BEST video format you can find everywhere with a reasonable cost.
i suggest you don't get any Digital8, Hi8 cameras 'cause if you want to get some sem-professional footage they f?ckin s?uck.
Oh, and i also suggest you to not film anything without a good script.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Something like a D8 DCRTRV240 will out perform a DV camera costing many hundreds more. For entry level price D8 cameras are great... becos they give the picture quality of the more expensive DVs and the only trade off is thier bulkier size. Which is actually an advantage if you are making movies becos you get steadier handheld shots.i suggest you don't get any Digital8, Hi8 cameras 'cause if you want to get some sem-professional footage they f?ckin s?uck.
